Welcome to the new tenure-track assistant professor, Fabio Heupel Santos
Fabio Heupel Santos is AMIS's new tenure-track assistant professor in Histories of Migration.
Fabio holds a BA in European Ethnology as well as in Cultural History and Theory from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, an MA in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin and a PhD in Sociology from the German-Mexican graduate school Entre Espacios, awarded by Freie Universität Berlin. Fabio has previously held academic appointments at Freie Universität Berlin, the University of Vienna, Aarhus University and the University of California, Berkley.
He is the author of Bridging "Fluid Borders: Entanglements in the French-Brazilian Borderland" (2022) and is currently working on his second monograph, which examines the U.S. offshoring of Haitian refugees from Florida to Puerto Rico in the early 1980s.
His teaching and research focus on migration, inequality, and colonialism, explored through ethnographic and archival methods.
