AMIS affiliate Dr. Martin Lemberg-Pedersen interviewed by Berlingske Tidende about the shift of migration flows to the Eastern Mediterranean route (in Danish)

While the EU ministers are busy planning a military intervention in Libya in order to stop human smugglers from letting boatrefugees travel to Europe, Dr. Lemberg-Pedersen points out that migration flows are already shifting to the Turkish-Greek route, which traditionally has been much-used for boatmigration. He points out that the original reasons for people’s escape from countries like Syria will remain and create demand for smugglers, despite the increased EU-militarization of border control.
