To make it as a dropout

This project is interested in the social processes surrounding and establishing youngsters in the geographical and symbolical periphery of Denmark as so called dropouts. In a situation where depopulation, withdrawal and transformation of the welfare state, local unemployment and an extensive public focus on education characterize these youngsters everyday life, what strategies do they use to make sense of their place? By looking at relations between education, policies and practices of alcohol and drug prevention and youngsters ‘living on the edge’ the project gives analytical priority to the practices and logics of alcohol and drug use; both among young people in a small community in rural Denmark and on the level of the state.
